3 Great Ideas for Virtual Team Building Events

It can be tough to build team spirit when team members are scattered across the globe, but with a little creativity, it’s possible to create virtual events that can make everyone feel like part of a cohesive unit.

The virtual possibilities are great because the logistics of getting everyone in one place is a much easier task. If you have a computer-literate workforce, then you can usually get everyone to take part. Involving staff in deciding what you want to do, might help in the process of getting everyone interested. Think about the hobbies your staff are into. This should provide you with some suggestions that you can take forward. There is no doubt that team building helps to gel a workforce together for the good of a company.

Here are three ideas to get you started.

Virtual cooking class

Team building doesn’t have to be all work and no play. A session of corporate virtual cooking classes can be a fun way for team members to bond, while also perhaps learning a new skill. This can be done by renting professional kitchen space and hiring a chef to lead the class, or by having team members cook from their own homes and share their recipes.

At the end of the session, everyone should have a great meal to eat. But, whatever the result, everyone will have had a fun time doing it and get to know other staff they had perhaps not previously seen or even spoken to before. So much is dealt with by emails or messaging these days, this might be the case.

Circumstances can mean that we are unable to meet in person and it can be more cost-effective to go virtual with our team bonding.

Virtual book club

For team members who love to read, starting a virtual book club is a great way to get everyone involved in lively discussions about literature. Team members can take turns leading the discussion, and books can be selected that are relevant to the team’s work or that simply everyone will enjoy.

You can quickly learn what the outside interests of your staff are this way. It can also be a fun exercise coming up with titles and deciding on the books to read. Many of us love reading for its escapism and staff can use it to relax too.

Some people only read factual books, so it will be something different for them to get involved in fiction. We can get into a story and use it as something of a talking point. The conversations online can be deep and meaningful ones that get everybody thinking. Staff can learn to analyze everything in greater depth.

Virtual charity auction

Team building can also be about giving back. A virtual charity auction is a great way to do that, while also getting team members to bid on items and services donated by team members or local businesses. This is a fun way to raise money for a cause close to everyone’s heart, while also bringing team members together. It can be a great way to buy your birthday and Christmas presents while bonding with staff members at the same time.

Events in the interest of team building can be a lot of fun, whether they’re in person or virtual. If you’re looking for some new ideas to add to your ideas list, consider the above. We happen to think that corporate virtual cooking classes are a great idea for businesses looking to engage staff with something fun. They might even add to someone’s skill base. All these kinds of activities represent a great way to get everyone working together and have some laughs while doing it!
